Good Plants Gone Bad

Use these seven questions to figure out what's wrong with any plant:

1. What is the plant?

2. What is normal for the plant?

3. What are the common problems with the plant?

4. What do you see that looks abnormal?

5. What is the overall health of the plant?

6. What are the site conditions?

7. What kind of care is the plant getting?

Analyze your answers and more often than not you'll get the knowledge you need to implement a solution. Discuss your findings with gardening peers, professionals at your favorite garden center, and the plant-loving educators at a local arboretum, botanical garden, or Extension Service office. There are also a number of Web sites and books that you can go to for answers. In the meantime, keep the plant as healthy as possible by giving it sufficient fluids, and limiting the amount of salt.

Seal The Deal!

Florida weather is hard on outdoor wood structures. Protect your investment by having Dickerson Landscaping seal your deck, arbor, fences and outdoor furniture. Sealing at least once a year will keep your outdoor living space in good shape. How do you know if your wood structure needs to be sealed? Try the splash test. Sprinkle water on the wood structure, if the water absorbs and turns the wood a darker color within 5 seconds it is time to seal your wood structure. Sealing helps prevent water damage, helps maintain the natural color of the wood, and helps resist mildew and UV damage.

Lawn cares & Concerns

This past winter has officially been recorded as the 4th coldest in Florida history. In January alone, there were twelve days below freezing. Why is this pertinent in the heat of the summer? Extreme weather has a dire effect on your lawn. In the heat of the summer this summer some areas of North Florida are under serious drought pressure. Chinch bugs are damaging St. Augustine lawns, and watch for brown areas that continue to spread. Keep your eye open for spider mites on annuals, the palm bud weevil on palms, and mole crickets, sod webworm, and armyworm on your lawns. Now is a good time to have your yard checked out... give us a call and we'll diagnose it for you.
