Client Community is here:
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and speaking of "thanks"; I wanted to thank those of you who took the time to sign up for Client Community on our website. It is for you our clients and no one else can get to these pages. You have to log on the site and sit up a password to get in. The requested information is just to verify that you are a client of Dickerson Landscaping and that's all. The pages beyond have specials and promotions we negotiate with other local venders in our local community. This month we are offering desert on us for two of our clients at Kool Beans Café of which are made by artist Sylvia Gould and yes they are works of art to your taste buds . The first two clients to claim them will get the $10 dollar gift cards. And don't forget to check back from time to time for we will be updating them as we get them. Also we would like to hear your feedback on other promotions you are interested in and local venders you would like to see represented. So give us your ideas.
Thanks
William

LOY: Means Landscaper of the Year!
I had a great time on this year's Landscaper of the Year Awards Cruise. We place top in our group-Southeast and third overall. The winner was a very creative company out of Michigan; whom travel all over the country doing old European style gardens. They do some very beautiful work indeed. While on the cruise we took part in the round table discussion and had a lot of information to share with our 20 year plus in the business. The best advice for business we took away from the discussion was summed up in three words-faith, passion, and relationships.
During the Ports of Call we got to go on a private tour of the Atlantis Resort. The resort manager told us about the concerns of running such a resort on a small island nation as the Bahamas, some of his adjectives made me laugh for I could relate to his frustrations. One very interesting project they had been working on was their water reclamation project. Water usage is a huge expense to the resort in both taxes and energy to run the desalination plant. By reworking their drainage system to catch the runoff and the excess water from the irrigation system they are able to save $5000 a year and they have only done one small area of the resort. Now that is a savings and a very good example of how recycling can save money in the long run.
While there I did want to learn more about how a high end resort keeps it color year around looking like it had always been therefore all those guests coming and going. I knew how Disney did it in the parks but Disney is larger and we did have down time from the time the park closed and reopened in the morning. However my answer was not anything different. They shut down certain walkways and do the work at sunrise while most of the guest are sleeping. I did learn to my surprise that they spend between about 250 thousand a year on new plants and flowers just to keep things looking their best.

Plant of the Month:

Want something that smells good when you prune it and makes for great holiday cut foliage? Try Florida Anise(Illicium floridanum) not the Yellow Anise( Illicium parviflorum). Florida Anise is different than Yellow or Ocala Anise in shape and growth habit. It must have shade to grow in and has a dark evergreen leaf. It likes to be planted in rich moist soil and flowers in both red and white. The white is a faster and larger grower. Florida Anise is our plant of the month and we have 3 gals on sale for 10.99, normally they are 24.99 for 3 gal size. Sale ends January 1st.
