"Change" Home Show
It is a word we hear a lot these days and no wonder with the speed at which things happen. So this time we are slowing things down a bit for you at this year's Home Show. Instead of bringing you the latest fastest coolest gadgets of the landscape industry we want to take you back; back to a time of your grandparents and remember when....? A time when the day bed was used for napping. A time when you could set by the fire and tell stories till dawn. A time when you could tell which flowers were blooming in the yard just by smelling your shirt collar. So come join us at the Leon County Civic Center this weekend (Feb 4th 5th and 6th) and come sit a spell.

Congratulations To Dan Fendley
Ever watch a tree grow? Well over time it can be an incredible thing. Like watching our children, one day they are knee high then the next they are towering next to us. Dan Fendley our landscape designer just had his third child Monday Jan 17th - Charlie! So to celebrate Charlie's birth, we are having a tree planting special. For every 15 gallon or 25 gallon tree purchased from our nursery we will plant it for free. The only catch is it has to be within 32 miles of the nursery. Google Map or MapQuest (12 Hayfield Spur, 32344) to see how far you are from the nursery. Be the first person to guess Dan's age and you win the tree.

Communication is Key
Communication is one of our values here at Dickerson Landscaping, so in a effort to improve ours we have done the following three things. One, we have centralized are telephones system so call 422 3001 for any questions or concerns. Please don't call individual cell phones. Benefit - Derek can record it and get it out to the correct crew and/or schedule it directly. Secondly, we have centralized our email domain. Now if you want to send us an email, use admin@Dickersonlandscaping.com, it will then be forwarded to the proper person, crew, or division. Benefit-if someone is out for a week, your email is not just setting in their mailbox not being addressed. Thirdly, we have incorporated Outlook for all our scheduling which allows us to share calendars with the nursery in Lloyd and our office in Tallahassee. Benefit- by calling 422 3001, Derek will be able to look everything up on the calendar and tell you when your service is to be preformed.

Why we leave the dead stuff!
You may have noticed that our maintenance crews are not pruning off the dead leaves left behind by the winter cold, well its protection. Protection! you ask? Yes, you see the winter frost kills tropical or exceptionally watery plants back to the ground. This happens when the ice expands in the plant cell and it explodes the surrounding tissue, much like a soda left in the freezer. Ok so what does that have to do with the dead stuff being left? We leave the dead stuff because it acts like a blanket and if you cut it away the next frost will now form on new or unfrozen parts of the plant killing it, so we leave it. Ever asked yourself why trees lose their leaves? It is nature working much for the same way. The leaves fall to the ground form a blanket, insulating the roots from the cold and snow that is soon to fall thereafter. While that may not happen much here in Tallahassee, we still get killer frosts. If you still want the material remove call @ 422 3001 and Derek will get it scheduled.

It is far stronger than its cousin the Slash Pine and is an essential part of the North Florida Eco System. Did you know it is the only tree the Red Cockaded Wood Pecker uses to build its nest. It seems many creature use this tree to make their home.
