Clover all over
Historically debated, did the shamrock hail from the small hop clover, white clover, or the black medic? Regardless, we all agree that it signifies luck! Today, the question is if clover abounds is it a blessing or a curse? Lush, green and hearty, some love it... invasive and technically a weed... others fate it for eradication. Let's take a look at in relation to Florida. White clover, a viable winter annual that can act as a short-term perennial under optimum conditions, adapts to moist soils throughout Florida. It's a good reseeder, yet Nemotodes and other pests can limit production. Extremely inexpensive, clover is immune to "dog patches." It requires little or no mowing (growing only 2-8 inches tall) and as a nitrogen-fixing legume (a plant that essentially creates its own fertilizer), clover requires very little maintenance. Additionally, anyone who has struggled to rid clover from a grass lawn will attest of its persistence. As such, clover easily out-competes most other weeds and reduces the need for weeding or expensive herbicides. Nonetheless, clover does not bode well with traditional bluegrass or bermuda lawns. All and all... in regard to clover, it would appear that luck, too, is in the eye of the beholder!

Green is the color of spring... not ponds!
For your pond to look crystal clear all summer, chances are it needs a good spring-cleaning. Take a look... a layer of "crud" at the bottom and dark water means you need a thorough cleaning. If there's just a small amount of debris in the pond and the water quality looks good you might simply need to clean it with a net. Regardless, we provide full pond service... draining, gathering fish, pressure washing rock, cleaning filters and nets and adding chemicals back in to neutralize the PH. Take advantage of the Pond Maintenance coupon on our web site and let's get your pond clean and healthy today!

A green thumb is easier than it looks!

We can all have gorgeous flower beds bursting with blooms... all it takes are a few simple, yet vital steps when preparing your beds for spring planting. Apply the following tlc and your beds will thank you by blooming all summer long! Cut away die back on perennials and remove dead foliage (great for compost). Test the PH in the soil. If it's too acidic add line to amend (4 lb of lime per 100 sq. feet). Add 3 lb of sulfur per 100 sq. feet to amend alkaline soil. Till the soil (for annuals... avoid tilling around perennials). Add compost or manure to the soil. Happy planting!
