The Dirton Labor Day
Labor Day
is observed on the first Monday in September. The first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City to commemorate the deaths of several labor workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike. Staving off further conflict following the deadly strike, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was unanimously rushed through Congress and signed into law only six days after the strike ended. Be it fear of reprisal or genuine acknowledgement of the American work force, from that day forward, the laborer was recognized as an American staple. Dickerson Landscaping celebrates Labor Day the same way we do every day... sculpting the landscape through design and maintenance, as we genuinely believe in maximizing the experience of just being at home. Take a look around. Do you like what you see? If not, dig in, get your hands dirty and help us make this a more beautiful place to live. Hard work can be good for what ails you and the community at large. So, join our efforts and help us raise the quality of living in Tallahassee and this weekend, together we'll raise our glass to the American worker!

In Doubt of Drought
Do you have a lawn that demands a lot of water ... egregiously effecting your water bill? Are you engaged in constant hand to weed combat? Do you have a number of bothersome insects? If so, you have a high maintenance lawn. Perhaps we can interest you in a native plant designed yard with a variety of shrubs that will attract wildlife, & a patio or deck area from which to enjoy the show! Natural Florida landscaping is unique and when done right is not only easy to maintain but ideal for the climate and the "look" of Florida. Here are the main principles behind a Florida-friendly lawn: 1. Right plant in the right place (plants selected to suit a specific site will require minimal amounts of water, fertilizers & pesticides). 2. Water efficiently (irrigate only when your lawn needs water). 3. Fertilize appropriately (less is most often best). 4. Mulch (maintaining a 3-inch layer will help retain soil moisture, prevent erosion and suppress weeds). 5. Attract wildlife (plants in your yard that provide food, water, & shelter will attract Florida's diverse wildlife). 6. Manage yard pests responsibly (unwise use of pesticides, can harm people, pets, beneficial organisms and the environment). 7. Recycle (grass clippings and leaves provide nutrients to the soil and reduce waste disposal when reused on the landscape). 8. Reduce storm water runoff (water running off your landscape can produce pollutants, such as soil, debris, fertilizer, gasoline & pesticides that can adversely impact water quality and reduction of this runoff will help prevent nonpoint-source pollution). 9. Protect the waterfront (waterfront property, whether on a river, stream, pond, bay or beach, is very fragile and should be carefully protected to maintain freshwater and marine ecosystems). Call us today for a low maintenance, Florida-friendly yard and we'll reward your efforts with a variety of beautiful native plants valued at $200.00!
